There is an increase in the number of asthma cases all over the world. Asthma symptoms are very troubling and the worst part is that they could be life threatening. The number of children and adults suffering from asthma is increasing every year. Asthma is a very common condition of the lungs in the U.S. too.

The good news in this bleak scenario is that there are some foods that help in reducing asthma symptoms. Researchers and scientists today study how the diet of a person helps in treating and preventing a lot of diseases and there are studies in progress to find out the influence of diet on asthma symptoms.

A recent study focuses on the effect of foods in children suffering from asthma. There are certain foods that help in reducing asthma symptoms. Children who on a regular basis consumed butter, full fat milk and other dairy products were less prone to get asthma. It was also seen that wheezing was much less in children who consumed diary products containing full fats like butter and whole milk. Dairy products therefore seem to be very helpful in reducing asthma symptoms.

Whole wheat is another very important grain that helps reduce asthma symptoms - foods that contain whole grains and bread made from whole wheat seem to help. Acute asthma symptoms are reduced when products made from whole grain are consumed. In children whole grain consumption also brings down the probability of asthma. The same study has shown that the consumption of fresh vegetables and fruits daily helps a great deal too.

In spite of all these studies, scientists cannot quite fathom the real cause of asthma. Many studies show that allergies caused due to food play a vital role in causing asthma attacks. For asthma that is brought on due to food allergies, it is important to find out which foods cause these attacks and which foods would help in reducing asthma symptoms.

One must just stop eating foods that increase asthma symptoms and attacks and stick to those foods that will help in reducing them. Foods that are either too hot or too cold may also start an asthma attack. As will overeating. Food preservatives that contain sulfites that are found in processed foods like meats can cause asthma attacks if the person has a reaction to them. The best way to avoid asthma symptoms is to avoid foods that tend to bring on the attacks.

To avoid asthma attacks, it is best to take a fresh new look at what goes on your plate. However, don’t try and do this on your own without prior consultation with your doctor. It is important for your doctor to be well aware of not only your treatment but also the changes in you diet. Your doctor will be able to make his treatment more effective if he is in the know. He will probably guide you to what you should eat and what you shouldn’t to control your asthma.
